Diana Wallis, former Vice President of the European Parliament and current President of the European Law Institute is a true representative of WarCon’s interdisciplinary vision, and will be addressing our Europe topic from the law perspective.

…successfully pressured the Commission into appointing 8 female Commissioners in 2010…

As VP her responsibilities included negotiating the Transparency register with the Commission, chairing debates and votes in the Plenary, and chairing the Question Time sessions. She also set up her own initiative, an inter-institutional network for high ranking female players on the EU scene, which successfully pressured the Commission into appointing 8 female Commissioners in 2010, as opposed to the initial 3 proposed.

As a parliamentarian the main focus of her legislative work and policy interests were Legal Affairs, particularly private international law, contract law and alternative dispute resolution. Prior to entering politics, Diana worked as a solicitor, where she specialised in European cross border litigation and private international law.

As president of the European Law Institute Diana pursues the quest for better law-making in Europe and the enhancement of European legal integration with a genuinely pan-European perspective.

We can’t wait to welcome Diana to the inaugural Warwick Congress 2017!
